Understanding Memberships (Start Here)

Custom membership functions were designed to allow for the fast, automated, efficient processing and acknowledgment of membership pledges and payments.  SFZC needed to more closely track each membership term as a whole rather than a series of disjointed payments from a member.

The vehicle to achieve this cohesiveness is the Membership Summary.  Its function is to act as a container to hold one or more opportunities that relate to a membership term.  While corralling the payment and pledge opportunities, it also provides valuable data about membership level, past and future memberships and whether the member is in good standing, lapsed or needs to be renewed.  It will automatically renew a member who has chosen to indefinitely continue his or her membership. It will also track the start, end and grace dates of a particular membership.  These functions enhance reporting accuracy and overall membership management effectiveness.

What is a Membership?

What is a Membership?

It's like a row of piggy banks.  Each bank represents a membership either pledged or paid.  When the member puts "coins" into the bank the piggy acts as a container for the coins that are dropped in over time.

Its a smart piggy bank so it also keeps track of how many and the value of coins the member drops in over a certain time period. The coins are the opportunities and the piggy banks are the membership summaries.
